Barcade is about to launch its seventh location in Newark, NJ. It will be the second in the state of New Jersey, opening at 494 Broad Street at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26.
This Barcade is a five minute walk from the Newark Broad Street Station and hopes to match the success of the Jersey City location. Barcade Newark will serve 25 craft beers and will operate over 40 arcade and pinball machines.
The machines only accept Barcade tokens, which can be purchased on-site. With no televisions in the bar, gaming is the general focus.
Probably the most unusual machine in the bar is the 1974 Challenge table top video game. Challenge suits one, two, or four players in a classic cocktail arcade machine style. There will be multiple cocktail table style games, as well as the upright variety. To inspire more competitive patrons, a list of the high scores is available online.
Patrons must be at least 21-years-old to enter, a rule enforced at all Barcade location. Barcade Newark will be open 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12 p.m.to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
