There’s an app out there for everyone, and Boxes sets out to make sure there’s one for collectors. Founded in 2012, Boxes was created as a way to showcase and sell user-compiled collections. Available on iOS, the app has over 500,000 downloads and over $100 million worth of items listed, since the app’s beta in Feb. 2015.
The app allows users to post items in a variety of categories: Antiques, Art, Books, Cameras & Photos, Coins & Paper Money, Comics, Dolls & Miniatures, DVDs & Movies, Electronics, Entertainment Memorabilia, Home & Garden, Men’s Clothing & Accessories, Music, Musical Instruments & Gear, Sporting Goods, Sports Memorabilia, Toys & Hobbies, Trading Cards, Vehicles, Video Games & Consoles, Watches & Jewelry, and Women’s Clothing & Accessories.
Boxes allows users to post multiple pictures per item, as well as a title and a description. In addition, the user can input private details for their eyes only, including: purchase price, date of purchase, warranty length, item value, quantity and personal notes. The items can also be listed for sale in the in-app marketplace.
The app also has premium membership options, where users can receive unlimited storage, passcode locks, custom filters, and personalized backgrounds.
The latest version of the app, dubbed Boxes 2, is available on the iOS App Store for download. However, the Android version did not release in early winter 2016 as promised. A web version of the app is currently being beta tested.
